Scoolmedia.com aims to get high school students well-versed in all the ways media works, allow them to work alongside professional editors to produce quality pieces and provide them with a platform to present their work to wider audiences.
Our goal is to help raise a new generation of reporters capable of distinguishing between fact and fiction, one that, in the digital era, has well-developed critical thinking skills and can navigate successfully through the information glut they are exposed to, through both traditional and social media channels.
– Engage students and their teachers with the journalistic profession through the provision of learning materials and manuals, editorial guidance and a platform to present their work;
– Equip high school students in Bulgaria with the necessary skills to critically assess, interpret and analyze information;
– Promote media content produced by the students;
– Promote high-level reporting ethics and standards.
Scoolmedia.com is a national online platform showcasing students’ work. We provide editorial guidance and mentorship to young journalists-to-be. Stories published on the bilingual site (in Bulgarian and English) follow journalistic ethics and standards, as the student reporters also hone their skills in news-gathering, writing and fact-checking as well as learn more about the journalistic profession.
Scoolmedia.com is part of the “Media literacy in the classroom” initiative carried out by the Association of European Journalists-Bulgaria in cooperation with the Bulgarian Fulbright Commission and the America for Bulgaria Foundation. It aims to equip high school students in Bulgaria with the necessary skills to critically assess, interpret and analyze information by introducing a media literacy program.
